Like all sports, skiing and snowboarding entail risks. The FIS rules of conduct, as an ideal pattern of conduct for a responsible and careful skier or snowboarder, have the purpose to avoid accidents on the slopes.

The FIS rules of conduct apply to all skiers and snowboarders. The skier or snowboarder is obliged to be familiar with the rules and have to respect them. If someone fails to do so, his/her behaviour could expose him/her to civil and criminal liability in case of an accident.
